Tap Titans and its sequel are both some of the highest-rated idle games on the app store. The premise is simple: strike down all monsters in your way! You can make your hero attack by tapping the screen. If you’d rather save your fingers from the stress, you can hire other heroes to join you. These will attack any monsters you face, even if you’re not actually playing the game! This means you can close the app and do other things as your team defeats enemies for you. Tap Titans also features guilds where you can chat with other members and a group monster that everyone in the guild can fight.
2. AdVenture Capitalist
If you’d rather be making a killing with money than killing monsters, be sure to try out AdVenture Capitalist. The goal is to make as much money as you can and has you in the humble position of selling lemons to start. You’re not stuck there long, however; soon you’ll be escalating your work and earning more and more money. You can hire managers to help you accrue your fortune and even shoot for the moon! Once all that money-making gets too much, you can close the app and allow your passive income producers to make you money while you’re gone.
3. Clicker Heroes
Clicker Heroes looks simple, but it has quite a deep system within it. The main goal is to make it through the levels of monsters defeating the boss monsters that block your path, but the best way to do that is to make smart use of the resources that you’re given. You can tailor your equipment and bonus-granting Ancients around your chosen playstyle, then maximise your bonus resets for the best possible run. Any heroes you hired during play will fight and gain money even while the app is closed. There are plenty of guides and tools to help, including its own dedicated fan subreddit.
4. Kittens Game
If you’re looking for something quite deep in gameplay, Kittens Game is a good choice. It costs a little bit of money and has no pictures or graphics to it, but still provides an engaging play style that keeps you checking on it over the course of the day. Help develop your town of kittens by supplying catnip for them to eat, building huts for them to live and developing your small society’s culture so they learn how to mine, hunt, and trade with other civilisations. You can tell the app to inform you when projects are ready to be built so you can go about your life as your kittens work away.
5. Endless Frontier
If you’re a big fan of traditional RPGs, Endless Frontier is worth a look. With over 150 unique heroes in the game, you won’t be stuck for a choice when deciding who to go with. Something unique about Endless Frontier is how in-depth the user interaction is; while it does feature guilds and dungeons, it also comes with player-versus-player and guild-versus-guild fights for those who like to test their skill against other players.
