Thanks to Avantek, I think I’ve finally found a headset that delivers on both quality and affordability. Avantek’s wireless Bluetooth headset features 24-hour playtime and a built-in microphone for hands-free calling. Plus, it has the best wireless range I’ve ever encountered. Let’s take a closer look.

Design

The Avantek Bluetooth headset has plush ear pads that comfortably hug your ears when you put them on. You can wear them for hours without ever thinking twice. The ergonomic headband is cushioned and also fits snugly and quite comfortably on your head. For the size of the earphones, the headset itself is pretty lightweight when worn. Each earphone has its own set of buttons and functionality. The left side has a power button, volume up/down buttons, a 3.5mm audio port and a microphone. The right side has a charging port, a play/pause button and previous/next track buttons. Next to the mic there’s also a small LED indicator that illuminates when the power is turned on, when it’s charging and when the headset is ready for pairing.

Usage

Setting up the headset is really easy and it even talks to you. You have to hold the power button for two seconds to turn it on or off. When turning it on a female voice will say “power on.” When turning off the voice will say “power off.” To pair the headset with a Bluetooth-enabled device, make sure the headset is off and that Bluetooth is enabled on your device. This time, you’ll need to hold the power button for six seconds. The LED indicator will flash red and blue and the voice will say “ready for pairing.” The headset will appear as “AVANTEK” under your list of available devices. If your device asks for a pairing code, you’ll need to use “0000” (four zeros). If you want to use these with a non-Bluetooth-enabled device, you can do that as well thanks to the included 3.5mm audio cable. Even though the headset is said to play for 24 hours (I only went 5 hours, so I can’t vouch for that), you’ll still need to charge it at some point. The built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery charges quickly and does so via a micro USB charging cable (one end micro, the other end regular USB). The LED indicator stays red until charging is complete, so you won’t have to worry about over-charging.

Performance

After pairing the headset with my Android tablet and opening Spotify, I was very satisfied with the loud, clear sound. However, I was unable to control the volume using the buttons on the earphones. This may just be an issue with my device though, rather than the headset. I was able to use the previous/next buttons along with the play/pause button, although I noticed that it did take the headset a few minutes to perform the action once a button was pressed. Having the buttons right there on the headset really does come in handy since you won’t need to use your device (unless you want to find a specific song). Lastly, I was extremely impressed with the wireless range of the headset. It claims to have a 100 foot range, and I must say this does seem accurate. I was able to walk outside of my apartment (door closed) and pretty far away from my front door (into the neighbors yard) with the music still playing loud and clear in my ears. I was pretty shocked that it kept playing for so long.

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re listening to music or talking on the phone or in a video chat, these headphones are perfect for the job. The outstanding sound quality coupled with its amazing wireless range will give you the freedom to walk around and even go outside to the car or mailbox, all while still listening to music or talking on the phone. When purchasing the Avantek Bluetooth wireless headset, I’d definitely say you’re getting your money’s worth.
