One with Everything
Once you have the software and install it, naturally it asks you to plug in your iOS device. Once attached via a lightning cable, your phone or tablet is scanned by the software to catalogue the contents for transfer. Obviously, if your phone is rammed with files, this might take a while, so make yourself a tea and get comfortable. When that’s done your home page is displayed with four toggle buttons for Photos, Music, Videos and Contacts. After your phone is scanned, all these buttons light up, and you can do the simplest and quickest transfer, which is a block backup/transfer of everything. You do this by toggling the buttons for each of the categories and pushing the Transfer to PC button. Of course if you only want to transfer one category, say Photos, then toggle off all the others and hit the Transfer button. Simple.
Advanced Features
New with version 2 are some additional advanced features across the top of the interface via tabs. So along with the familiar Manage tab, you also have two new tabs: Clean and Videos. Manage is just what you’d expect, all your files arranged in sections down the left hand side for Photos, Music, Videos, iBooks, Podcasts, Voice memos and Apps. Using this section you can fine tune your import/export of your files in all these categories by selecting individual files. Just click the checkboxes next to the files you want to transfer and click export. This is true of all sections, apart from Apps. Due to limitations in the most recent versions of iOS from around version 9 of iOS, the ability to export Apps has been disabled, so on the Apps tab the export button goes away. This is a shame, as it would be nice to install and uninstall apps at will, but it’s not the fault of this software, as nobody can do this now since the changes. The next tab is the Clean section, and this helps you remove a number of unused file types which can litter your system using up space. In our case there were over 3400 files totaling about 167Mb, which is quite a lot. That could free up enough space for an app! The procedure is simple: Just push the button and it’ll clean all the files. For fine tuning, there is a details button to allow you to toggle the different types of files. If you happen to know that some parts of the “clutter” are actually useful to you, then you can keep those and zap the rest.
Conclusion
It’s easy to recommend this product. IOTransfer 2 is a good solid iPhone transfer software for iOS users, easy to operate and understand and not wildly expensive either. The interface is clean and bright, the operation is simple, and within the limitations of transfer speeds, it’s quick.
